Going to the zoo again today, had a hard time deciding weather to take the MD 70/210 or the sel 55/210

Went with the md as I think the image quality is much better at long distance than the sony.

Since lighting won't be a problem so I can crank up the speed I won't need the extra steady shot of the sony.

Using the sony at the last concert I went to I was pleased to be able to drop the speed quite a bit. It's just, at the long end of the zoom it doesn't seem as sharp as the legacy. For portrait or mid range shots I would still use the sony but I have not found a reasonably priced zoom that meets the sharpness of the minolta.

I've seen some excellent zoo photos from you with the MD 70-210 f/4 so I think that's a tried and tested option ;)

I can only think of 2 reasons you would prefer the SEL55-210 instead:
    1) AF - fast moving animals captures
    2) convinience: easier to handle due to the smaller size and lightweight

Is it 5 NEX or Nexus, Nexii, Nexes, Nexs. What is the plural?

    Ha!
My wife and I was at a Zoo, South Lakes Wildlife Park in the Lake Districk, UK on monday.

    Quite new to this.
    I/we have a NEX 3N and a sigma 19mm, kit 16-50 and the 55-210 zoom.
We took the lot, had no clue really, so had to.
Ended up with the 55-210 zoom mostly

Man is zoo work hard work. a Giraffe lifts it's head, into the sun, away from the sun, moves round, pops in for a look, finds me boring so moves on and we get a rear of the head, all in a millisecond and hardly got the camera switched on. It can change so quick, the conditions.

I had this idea of bracketing each picture and taking 3 of everything 0.3ev apart. But the other half set it up wrong and we had 2ev apart pictures
Man it was hard. But excellent "under pressure" practice.
We only fell-out about 20 times arguing what to do and ended up doing nothing most of the time - moment had passed us by. LOL

I'll put a few up when we've sorted them out better. But a higher respect to animal photographers everywhere since monday.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I have the same problem taking shots of my wife.

I need to catch up with my photo editing to post a ton form my different recent trips but when you said Giraffe I quickly thought about one of my favorite picks from my recent trip :D
It was taken with a Konica Hexanon 200mm F3.5 handheld.
It was a fun day at the zoo.
That is the jpg but I will be working on my RAW files later to get the most of the images. :)
