.01 Starting to think it may be because my A7RIII is only on v 1.10 so might have to update that first. Seems to be that the camera won't connect with the USB cable.

Won't update the Sony A7RIII firmware either. Doesn't seem to want to connect still.

I managed to update the Batis 40mm firmware yesterday by taking out a couple of external drive items from the sockets in my Mac and this seemed to work. Unfortunately, the Sony A7RIII firmware would not work, again failing to connect to the camera.

I do not have a Mac but from what I have read, people often say two things to help this process succeed on Macs. The first is to make sure you follow the instructions to the letter (which you probably did, but...). The second is to use the USB cable that came with the camera. I don't really buy the cable thing as any good quality cable should work (does for me on Windows), but some people insist it matters.

Alternatively, I know of at least one person who bought the cheapest Windows notebook computer they could find just to do updates. I wonder too if running virtual Windows on the Mac might also work.

Sony really needs to fix the updating process. Let us just dump a file on the memory card and restart the camera to install firmware updates.

.

well I can report that with a Amp meter tool I have for USB that different cables charge my phone at different rates using the same charger ... others have observed the effects too

I've had one USB cable that just wouldn't connect, and forced me to dig through my junk box to find the Sony provided cable. %@$~#&$%!

I'm liking this lens more and more. It has they type of bubbly bokeh that I love :)
