    Hi,
I've been waiting for a wired remote (with detachable cable) to become available, as it would allow for use of timer remotes for bulb-mode shooting. I found this on ebay (item number: 131220266958) and have ordered one. Hopefully the enclosed cable will allow the use of my Pixel timer remote on the A6000 and A7R. I know the lack of wired remote has been an issue with the Nex cameras, which make them not as versatile for things like astrophotography. Hopefully this will be an issue of the past.

Does Sony have a timer remote app you can use on your phone to control the a7?

Sony do have a phone app to control the camera remotely, but it does not have bulb mode and repeated triggering which is required for astrophotography.

There is an app i use, allow me to control my A7R with Bulb too, Pro version has an option for repeated triggering and for astrophotography, but i have the free version so not all features are there, but Bulb is available.

the issue with this app is that it stores the shots taken by camera in Phone folder determined in settings, there is no way it can store to camera card directly after the shot is taken, you should change mode to "Mass Storage" then move from Phone to camera card, hope something will come in the future for wireless remote app or even a tool in the markets.

Just to say the wired remote arrived today. It works well with both the A6000 and A7R, so now it is possible to do bulb photography with either camera, such as for astrophotography (the cable will allow me to use my Pixel timer remote).

I do not have a Nex-6 anymore to test, but it does not look like the USB on Nex-6 is multi-interface (I think the Nex-3N was the first such camera to include this new interface).

Just an update. I bought the wired remote from JJC and thought it would work with the Pixel TW-282 remote. While it did actuate the shutter, it did not allow any of the camera buttons to be accessed, and did not work with the wireless part of this remote. Hence I bought a cable specifically for the Pixel remote, and now it does work a treat. Fortunately I do have a use for the JJC remote, but it seems each brand has a different wiring to their cables and may not be interchangeable. Just be aware.

Wish he also had a tripod.

    pixel tw-282

I used Pixel TW-282 on my A7r. All functions work fine either as wired or wireless remote.

I have the Sony infrared wireless remote control but outdoor in bright conditions, it's not very reliable and it doesn't have all the functions, interval timers as the Pixel.
...and I hated using phone over wifi as remote control: slow and consume lots of battery on both phone and camera.

My A6000 is on its way for delivery in couple days. Will update to let you know whether TW-282 will work on A6000.
