I no longer have the lens (I sold it when I moved to the A7), but when I had it, I used it to reach out into the distance:

    or to get close in:

    or to compress space:

Just like you'd use any telephoto lens. ;)

I use it for all the reasons already mentioned - but it needs a lot of light. Definitely not an indoor lens!

Like Woodworks said- you can use it for just about anything that moves you. All shots @ 210mm.

Like a lighthouse 785 meters away. Oh, the wind turbines are over 13Km away.

Or a leaf on the snow from 1-2 meters.

A quick snap shot of some geese in flight from about 150 meters (that's a guess). Absolutely no idea for far away the jet was.

And a rose, through a dirty window from the minimum focus distance (just over a meter).

You bought it, go use it. ;)

Woodworks and others have already provided a range of examples. The point is there are times when the subject is just too far away to to capture using shorter focal lengths. The reason can be physical obstacles or the subject itself doesn't like you being close. Nature shots, Outdoor sports and other events.

I may as well provide some examples too.

It's a decent lens that will keep up with other 'kit' tele zooms from other systems. Don't expect it to be a $1500 lens and you will be pleasantly surprised. Focus point selection is critical with this lens and you might need to use DMF.

It's capable of decent results. F/6.3 is only 1/3 stop slower than other similar style lenses. It is also very usable at f/6.3 at 210mm and even better at f8. This is more of an outdoor lens but I have used it to shoot hockey games in well lit arenas.

I like this lens a lot. As shown in the thread it is good for distance shots and close ups, and I really enjoy using it for the latter. It is almost like a fake macro especially with some cropping. The bokeh nice for this type of lens IMHO.
