To quote that great American, the WOPR, "Would you like to play a game?" :)

The other day I commented on how well the 5N could recover shadows. With that rattling around in the back of my mind on my Christmas Eve shoot I deliberately shot several pics that are grossly underexposed. Here's an example:

NEX-5N    M-Rokkor 90    90mm    f/11.0    5s    ISO 100

And a quick "Auto" correction in ACR to show you what it actually is.

NEX-5N    M-Rokkor 90    90mm    f/11.0    5s    ISO 100

No other processing, except my standard RAW profile were applied. Your mission, should you choose to accept it Mr. Phelps, is to download and process the linked RAW file to your liking, resize it to 800 pixels on the long side and upload it here. Why would you want to do this? Well, it's a giveaway. When everybody has uploaded their version of the processed file I'll put a poll up and everyone can vote. Most votes wins.

So, what do you win? Up for grabs is a Spiratone 18mm f/3.5 m42 mount wide angle lens. Comes with the original (rather ratty) lens case, the original front lens cap (won't stay on, needs new felt), a generic rear cap, a Spiralite Haze filter and a Nikon center pinch front cap. Can be used as a camera lens, a paperweight, or a doorstop- your choice (it does actually work as a camera lens). Winner pays postage and it'll be winging it's way to your door.

So, download the RAW file (it's big, it may take awhile to download- slow connection probably shouldn't bother), process to your liking- Anything Goes!, upload a pic of 800 pixels max on the long side.

Here's the RAW file- _DSC1984.ARW

So, because of the holiday, posting your version of the pic is open until 1201 AM Monday January 7, 2013 Pacific time. Let the Game begin!

I'm in too! The Spiratone is a beautiful lens - would love to win it!

Not sure if I've accomplished much, but here's my take...

It was a tough one, but thank god it was shot on a NEX. :D

Here's my edit. I wanted to make it look dreamy, while being scary at the same time. I guess the music I listened to while editing the file caused my brain to go crazy ... Hope you like it!

Was going to go Vincent Van Gogh and be all Starry Night with it, but decided against it. Here's what I ended up with...

Edit: Damn! My pic seems to keep disappearing from the post - I think the forum is expiring my attachment which I tried to inline

Definitely not my normal style, but it was fun to play anyway. Was trying to keep it 'nightish', trying to get a little detail out of the clouds, and also trying to keep the noise in check. Tried to cut back some of the intense blue I was getting, too. Is that fog in the foreground? Kept throwing me for a loop.

That's the clouds being reflected in the water. Five seconds and a little bit of wind does strange things to reflections on water. ;)
