There is a showcase for this lens, which was started by me at the time. It was the first lens I bought after I got my A7 because I just love the 40mm focal length and the Voigtländer 1.4/40 is small, light and has f/1.4! However, after some time I discovered that across-the-frame sharpness is only there at f/8 and then only just; I once made this picture at f/4 and the girl at the right isn't really sharp (click on it for full-resolution).
    i-cpz7tST.

At f/1.4 it has a veiling flare like almost all lenses wide-open. That veil is gone by f/2 but even there only the very center is sharp. And out it went, it got replaced by an Olympus OM 2/40 which I paid good money for and still have up to this day. Check it out on its showcase, again started by me, not many people seem to take to 40mm lenses the way I do. The Konica AR Hexanon 1.8/40 is a good alternative, much cheaper, but needs some more stopping down to get really good. Now when is that Batis 1.4/40 coming again? :inlove:

Think I will take a chance on it, seems a very good price and comes with Helical adapter and hood, I ca also alternate it between the A7ii and the A6000. Will post some images when it arrives

I hope you will enjoy it. I like mine and it is the same as Ad's, sharp in center but not so much away. I have been using it with the Tech Art Pro adapter and am pleased. I'll be using it more as a walk about lens.
There is a thread for the 40mm here: Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4

I got it and love it. Corners are certainly smeared on an unmodified a7, might be fine on the crop a6000 but that would make it a FoV I wouldn't really want to use it for. I now have my a7 with the kolari mod and it's sharp across the frame.

Just out of curiosity, is it possible to share some full-res samples? If I'm asking too much, just ignore my impertinent post.

Thank you for your reply, it would be my intent to share images when I receive the lens, however I am intrigued by Kolari Mod, can you clarify please

another option is the m-rokkor 40/f2 made for the Minolta/Leica CL/CLE. I had that and found it to be sharp enough, but like addielman I'm waiting for the 40 Batis. :)

I was planning to try out this M-Rokkor 2/40 but not for the prices I've seen so far...

Yes, they run around $400 or so. Most seem to be for sale from Japanese dealers on Ebay.

Yes, I will post later when I'm back home. The mod does cause some color shift which there are LR camera profiles for to help correct but outside with the sky in the frame you still might need to move it to the green tint. Lightroom also has profiles for these lenses and the distortion and vignette is corrected.

I like my Voiglander 40mm f/1.4 very much. I have used it in both A6000 and A7.

I use it with an inexpensive helicoid adapter that can turn to get better close up. I like it especially on its small size, good colors and unique characters. The focusing tab takes some time to get used to and the tab helps to nail focus quicker in manual focus.

@addieleman@addieleman Hmm so walking into work today I took a few pics. Pretty disappointing to see the wall pic at f2.8 with so much smearing in the bottom right and left (yet the top is fine). I'm not sure this is something the kolari mod is meant to fix or is it's just a lens attribute, since it seems to clear up the skopar 35mm f2.5 just fine. Anyway judge for yourself

Still for what I'm using it for it's great.

Thanks a lot for sharing! This showing is a lot better than what I was used to with this lens on my regular A7 so the Kolari modification is surely beneficial here, only the extreme corners are really unsharp.

First images Nokton 40m 1.4. I was a bit concerned regarding varying reports so I wanted to do some outdoor images, weather grim, however captured 3 images 1.4, 2.8 and F4, think this is a very sharp lens.

Then there is the Minolta Rokkor 45mm f/2.0. I got mine for about $10 :) Quite happy with it. I am also a fan of the 40-45mm focal length.
