    Hey there!

I am trying to shoot an overnight time lapse on my Sony a7ii. I hear you can charge these cameras (or at least a7rii) while shooting. However, whenever I plug in the USB charger while the camera is on the camera screen goes all black except for saying USB Mode Connecting... And shows two arrows around "usb".

    Any advice?

    Thanks

I understand now that, while that feature is available on a7rii and perhaps on a7sii it is not available on a7ii, a7s or a6000s(in case anyone else was wondering). Other options out there but as far as I know nothing built into the cameras.

The new a6300 will have access to external power via USB.

Your best bet for extended power is to use use a battery dongle to plug into either an external Li-Ion pack or power supply.
There is a thread here of someone doing such a project. A lot of good useful info and resources in that thread.
