Pentax Forums is a great resource for Pentax gear reviews. Bojidar's site is pretty good for historical stuff.

And that's a pretty nice score on the Tak Macro 100. ;)

It was not my first choice. I have been looking for Tokina or Tamron 90 mm macro of possibly Sigma 90 mm. Big name manufacturers tend to get better reviews than they deserve and Pentax hasn't been spectacular in macro lenses. All macro lenses are good enough for me, my intended use is more technical than artistic. Brand faithfulness isn't necessarily a good thing. Brand pride is utterly stupid (my camera maker makes best lenses and all proper photographers use it stuff). Mechanically Takumars are very good (I like most Takumars, Pentax K and Pentax M from that point of view but there are others good too).

Maybe it is slightly underrated. All macro lenses are very good and digital camera resolutions pretty low (16 MP 16mm*24mm makes roughly 100 lp/mm). Zeiss 100 mm macro planar is probably something like 20% better by numbers and it costs something like 20 times as much.

Now the lightning is the problem ... .
