Dark and starting to sprinkle, I walked out to get the mail before the monsoon hit.
Noticed this splash of color over in the trees / natural area.
Had never in my life seen this pretty style of mushroom before…it’s an ‘American Caesar’.
Made a beeline back to the house to grab a camera before the rain started.
( was also worried if I didn’t shoot them today, the deer would get them tonight )
Sprawled out prone, got a few shots, grabbed the mail, and got back inside without getting wet.

It's really something that they just popped up there during the last 24-48 hours...never seen that particular type of mushroom before in my life, much less right there between the house and the mailbox, and I've lived there 27 years !

WOW...A mere 18 hours later and this is what greeted me this morning.
Dark and dripping but I had to shoot it all opened up like this.
You can see where a deer nipped the front right edge...must not have liked it and moved on.
I'll try to get a better shot in better light if the sun ever comes back out.

This is unbelievable...a lady walking in the neighborhood knocked on the door, mentioned pic the mushrooms, did I mind, etc. I said be my guest…showed her the photos I’d already taken…she thanked me, walked away, I closed the door, etc

SHE WENT AND “PICKED” THE MUSHROOMS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was so into the photography mindset that I misunderstood her, thought she was meaning "pic”…in hindsight I now assume she must have been asking me permission to “PICK” them !!!

Gosh dang it…I wanted to take a few more shots through their life cycle, especially in some sunlight.

I don't know, I think you got some pretty good shots there before the vandal showed up. ;)

Well, apparently the Photo Gods are still smiling on me !
To my complete surprise this morning, I now have a new mushroom coming up from where she picked the first pair...AND...a totally separate 2nd mushroom up even higher a few feet away.
Added the obvious Do Not Disturb signs in hopes of getting a few sequence photos of these as they develop.
