I never posted in the "other systems" thread, but I wanted to show this shot from SX50 superzoom. This was shot at 210mm (1200mm, 35mm equivalent)

Really great looking results there !
(Not sure I understand the reference to 1200mm )

As an aside, moonscapes and that sort of a "moon in clouds" type shot are on my "bucket list" of moon related challenges to try and figure out how to do this year. Recently tried a moon-in-clouds with my 400mm but it was a failure...lighting, exposure, etc...just weren't there.

Roundball the 1200mm is the field of view. However, this focal length is actually 210. Think of how your 400mm works out to 600mm (35mm equivalent) because your Nex 7 is APS-c.This sensor is so small the focal length is multiplied by almost 6X crop factor. That's how these super zooms achieve such ridiculous reach at such tiny sizes

Field of view (width) of what is seen through the view finder...not magnification ?

For the most part; yes. Some people can be more technical, because of other factors like how much coverage is your viewfinder etc...

    Thanks Dave.

Thanks Alex. I did PP. I always shoot raw. I used DXO & Lightroom. Don't remember for this one.

Great shot Gary! Lots of "atmosphere" and really good detail. That it comes from a mega-zoom with a 1/2.3" sensor is very impressive.
As an aside, I don't recall being able to get that good a moon shot with my Sony HX100V... but then I'm not as skilled as you are, for sure.
