People live here
Man, that looks like a war zone.
But for an accident of birth...
It's in the middle off downtown.
And here we complain about the price of lenses....
Those are gripping photos. I was once told by a policeman with whom I was acquainted that those of us that live in average, middle-class neighborhoods pass by severely substandard housing every day, and never bother to notice. While he was just expressing his opinion, it did make me stop and think. These photos remind me of just how fortunate we are.
Reminds me a little of the favelas in Brazil. Beautiful homes in gated communities in one spot and not too far away large settlements of impoverished residents. Really does provide a sense of perspective.
My guess is, these are home demolished to make space for new development.
In China, the government owns all the land. If they decide to develop certain area, they'll move the residents elsewhere. The residents got compensated somewhat. But the government officials and developers always come out way ahead.
It really looks like a war zone and the fact that people & children actually live there is so sad
Colin, those are some amazing captures of the injustice going on to our world...
Excellent photos (with the familiar Colin PP )
Yes, your guess is spot on.
Another interesting thing about it is the demolition is being done completely by hand.
Great photos but sad story. Thanks for sharing.
