Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens on Sony A6400

IMO this is a great combination for shooting people and events. It is a relatively lightweight kit that produces excellent image quality. The focal range is fine for me since I really don't like using very wide focal lengths when shooting people.
Here are some shots I did yesterday at a Dia de los Muertos Celebration at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles...

Successful combo for you.

I had the 28-70mm and it was great but I struggled at times using it as an all-purpose lens when the subject was close. 28mm on the APS-C x the 1.5 crop equalling 42mm was just too tight.

For some photographers, the 42mm equivalent focal length is too narrow. However, I am not a fan of shooting UWA lenses or a fan of the results of these lenses when shot by other photographers.
I will often carry a Samyang 12mm f/2.0 lens if I think that there might be instances in which I need a wider angle image. This lens is small and light and relatively inexpensive as lenses go today. It is manual focus but that is no problem with focus peaking...

I always plan to shoot a Dia de los Muertos event, but I always forget to go every year! Probably the best photo ops for the year in Los Angeles!

The 42mm FOV isn't so bad as long as there aren't a bunch of other photographers crowding the scene. It only becomes an issue if space gets tight.

I just ran into that 28/42mm issue too often.

I find that the 75mm side is quite a help when there are crowds to contend with...

The Tamron does quite a nice job on the full-frame camera. It is about 60% of the weight and about 40% of the price of the Sony 24-70mm G-Master... I am quite happy with it.

I shot about half the images of the Dwali Celebration (above) using the Tamron 28-75mm on my A7iii and the other half using the 70-200mm f/4 G OSS lens. I didn't notice any great quality differences...

Where the lens really shines is that it can be used on either my full frame or my crop sensor Sony cameras because of its relatively small size and light weight, so I have a 28-75mm for my full frame camera and a 42-112.5mm lens for my crop sensor cameras. It would be nice if the lens had stabilization but, many Sony cameras have IBIS which makes up for the lack of stabilization in this lens. However, when shooting stills, I am not greatly hampered by lack of lens stabilization, even when shooting with an A6400 which doesn't have stabilization...
The 75mm long side on a crop format is really pretty nice for head and shoulder portraits

If I were just shooting Sony full frame, I might think of all three Tamron zooms: 17-28mm, 28-75mm and the forthcoming 70-180mm - all are f/2.8

I am in Guatemala now and just writing on a tablet after some days on this country. The issues I had during these days is the weight and there comes Olympus again. ?
However, I do like the colors and rendition of the Sony camera but ido not allow myself to have pains in the back because of the option I take
This is why I was thinking king to buy a decent quality zoom lens.
Or... or go back to Olympus when abroad and Sony at home !
This time I was stupidly caring 5 kilograms of camera and lenses in the back. No way, no way ... ?
I hope to post some images of the travel some day in the future ?

Antonio... I realize your need for a lighter weight camera outfit. That is why I first started in Sony with a crop sensor camera and a few prime lenses.
I like my A6400 camera and 24-75mm Tamron lens because it is a light weight combination that provides excellent image quality...
I will most often use the A7iii when a lot of walking is not expected - I will turn 80 next June and don't have the stamina I once had. I use the a6400 when I know that I will be doing a lot of walking, as I did Saturday at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Day of the Dead festivities...

IMO, a single camera and three lens combination that could do virtually everything is an A6400 or A6600 (the latter for the IBIS) with three lenses: 12mm f/2.0 Rokinon, 24-75mm Tamron and the new 70-350mm (crop factor only) Sony lens.
Usually a caveat to a "do-everything" kit is the exception of Macro and Wildlife photography. However this kit, by virtue of the close focusing capability of the Tamron lens and the 535mm eqivalent of the 70-350mm lens, can pretty well cover those options also. While the Tamron cannot actually do "marcro" photography, it can come pretty close by capturing images of 1:2.9 (Wide) / 1:4 (Tele)...
This combination of camera and three lenses weighs a total of: 1,833 grams - well under two kilos... The price, while not cheap is not excessive for the image quality and flexibility. At B&H, New York prices, the total is a bit over three thousand U.S. Dollars.. You could add an additional A6400 for an additional 403 grams of weight and nine hundred U.S. Dollars...
I am having a 24x30 inch metal print done from an A6400 + Tamron image just to see what it looks like...

I thought that I would try COSTCO since there is a store very near my home and the price was quite decent. I shied off a couple of online printers since their sites would only accept a 7 MB image ordering online.. I was able to use a memory stick at the Costco Kiosk and order the print directly.
I received a notice from COSTCO that the print had been shipped on the day after I ordered it. I will pick it up at the COSTCO store when it arrives in a few days...
he print that I ordered is 16x24 inches and costs $69...

Just picked up my Costco metal print and I am very happy with its quality. I figured 16x24 inches is big enough for me. I plan on having a few more done and making my office a little photo gallery...

Excellent image quality throughout the series.
Looks like the Tamron is a very capable lens for this type of photography.
Unfortunately, or thankfully, its not wide enough for my type of photography or else I'd be tempted to reach for the credit card
