Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 FE will be $799!

I saw two posts on FB with Sony enthusiast happy with their Tamron zoom that the focusing issue is fixed. Do any of you hear something similar? Does it come in a firmware? Has any more people getting this Tamron zoom lens. I pre-ordered it, saw the focusing issue, cancel pre-order and now about to order again but this time, I may order from Amazon for the faster delivery.

Any insights to this lens is appreciated? Sine the wide end is not wide enough, do you think getting the Samyang 24mm f/2.8 with AF is justified and a good pair for light and compact. Your thoughts.

The firmware fixes it. I think it's a great lens. Sharp end-to-end and comes in at a reasonable price. Since it's mirrorless, you don't have to deal with focus issues like DSLR third party lenses. Though if you plan on getting the Sam/Rok 24mm in addition to the Tamron (paying new), you're also near the same price ballpark of the Sony 24-105mm f4 FE.

I sold mine less than a week and just picked up a dirt cheap 28-70mm kit lens I won off Ebay when I need a zoom for video. I much prefer my 28mm f/2 and 85mm 1.8 prime lenses for the way I shoot.

Knowing 3rd party lens companies from their past, if one invests and commits to a clean-sheet FE mount zoom, you can bet they have long term plans to utilize as much of that development and tooling. The new Tamron motor will assured to be used in another followup product. Maybe two. My guess is an 75-200 f/4, and 12-28 f/2.8. Possibly both f/2.8 instead. But I think a 75-200 will be f/4 given the current lens' barrel dimensions. It would continue with the affordable and smaller theme.
A compact mirrorless trinity is easy to predict.

The lens is pretty sharp across the frame. Close up is decent. Build is decent for me and I especially like the lens hood and lens cap. Though all plastic, the Tamron is way better than my Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens hood as it is easy and smooth to mount and dismount. I notice some distortion and vignette on the 28mm but I see it as minor issues to be expected. So far so good and I feel justified for the price that I pay $799 + tax. My copy from Amazon comes with the updated 0.2 firmware.

I know it is a stretch not to have 24mm in the wide end. I am also very attracted to the many high praises with outstanding color and sharpness on the Sony 24-105mm f/4.0. I am kind of grateful that the Sony has been back ordered for months. And considering the price weight and value, it becomes an easier decision on my part as I need a fast zoom for indoor and flexibility with one lens.

Not exactly sure but I do see onion rings in the bokeh rings but this may be due to the type of lighting and reflections as I don't see it in prior pictures. At any rate, it is not too distracting on this one but I do take notice of it.

The zoom can take reasonable close up on food and product shots.

And AF in the dark goes like native lens and it is not scientific but I don't notice any slowness in night shooting wide open

The lens barrel sleeve attracts dust and look like an old lens after 1 week of storage in my camera bag. To be fair, my bag is likely on dirty side with liens and dust in traveling.

Overall, I find it pleasing to use. Weight is actually a bit heavier than I expected. Maybe my wrong expectation from comparison with the kit lens. My main gripe stays on the absence of 24mm and the lens barrel sleeve. The last may not be a valid complaint as many of my other zoom lens has similar issues. I need to get into habit in cleaning lens between usage. Is there a best practice in cleaning the outer sleeve of a lens.

I made a thread about the lens and some of the shots I've taken with it. Here I've been really surprised by the quality of the elements and the rapid speed the zoom has. I shoot with the a7R2, which isn't as fast as the newer cameras. However, it hasn't disappointed up to now. I will be taking it to Bangkok next week and I can't wait to see how it performs. BTW. These photos only have lens correction and have been cropped in some cases.

Well, that’s pretty much the Sony 16-35 - either in f/2.8 or f/4 flavors. For me, the choice was the 16-35 f/2.8 alone... or the 16-35 f/4 plus the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. I went with the second option.

If I'm going to spend that kind of cash on the 16-35mm 2.8, I feel like I should go even wider. I might go cheap and get the wide angle converter for the 28mm f2!
