There is going to be an announcement at the end of this month. Many think this will be the very overdue A7Siii, rather than something like an A5. We will soon find out.
I keep wondering which camera maker will bring us a brand-new sub-$1000 full-frame camera body. Canon is there with a $999 price tag for the RP body-only on Amazon. I have no idea if that is permanent or just a sale. I could see the new Nikon Z5 dropping that low in 18 months - maybe. Of course, Sony has the A7 II. Given that camera's age, I'm not sure if it competes on the same level with the recent competition. I'm sure we'd like to see a new Sony body with an up-to-date sensor and autofocus.
There is a certain grouping of photographers who sincerely but, erroneously, believe that switching from crop format to full frame will automatically result in top-notch images. Well, I shoot with both formats and can tell them this...
If you shoot with a crop format camera equipped with a good quality lens ad your images are not already top-notch, I would advise you to spend time and effort into improving your technique. Switching to full-frame will not automatically raise the level of your photography.
However, If you are already achieving very high standards of imagery using the crop format camera, you may (just may) continue to slightly improve that imagery by switching to full frame.
I have a 24x30 Inch metal print of this image (shot with an A6400 and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens)
ILCE-6400
E 28-75mm F2.8-2.8
75mm
f/4.5
1/320s
ISO 100
hanging over my desk. The quality of the print is excellent... Although I own the A7iii, I have no hesitation to grab the A6400 for virtually any photo shoot. I would DEFINITELY choose the A6400 over a watered-down full frame camera - especially one with no EVF...
Funny, I think I'd like to see a stripped down FF with no gadgets. Just a good sensor and IBIS with an EVF.
Kind of a hot rod you could put manual focus lenses on.

I just don’t think that would sell in sufficient numbers. It needs AF, because those who only use MF can just ignore it. The reverse doesn’t work. I would like a stripped camera, but it needs AF.
I hope not.
Cameras without viewfinders are badly crippled so it won't be a great camera.
Those desperate for a FF body can get a used one for well under $1000, my A7ii was under that even after conversion to IR.

Makes sense to me, but gave up second guessing decades back. Always wondered why Sony did not put large sensor in the flat tops.
But then they were selling the humpers well, so why cannibalize...?
I guess I will wait a bit and see. Not too particular about IBIS, just decent function and focus.
Gents, I am not a video guy, just a shooter and not much of that either. I had coveted the A II as it seemed to be a humped version of my handy 6300. Am I off base?

The A6300 is more advanced that the A7II, but after owning both I still preferred the images from the A7II, even if the body felt more clunky. Depends if you prefer compact size and faster performance (A6300) vs better image quality and okay handling (A7II)?
