Strange looking thing...Fungi I guess...anybody know the name?

    Hiking around a local lake today I came across this huge broken off tree.
    Got to looking it over and saw this weird looking thing inside.
    I assume it's some sort of Fungi but have never seen such a shape before.
    About the size of a basketball...anybody know what it is?

    I don't know what it is, but that tree looks like a recent fall.

    I wonder if it made any noise when it fell.

    LOL...whether or not anyone was there to hear it, that big Beech tree made a sound for sure.
