Absolutely awesome pic. I'd love to just see a steamer, let alone shoot one. :)

    Really great shot here.
Perfect shot, perfect sharpness, perfect surroundings... and perfect in BW!

We have 2 museum steam train around here too, both are smaller trains in size. But it would be really dangerous to go in the trails that near, think they would really make an emergency break than... :)

You know, I read in some online discusion on composition that one should never have leading lines exit an image in the corners of the frame. And I remember thinking, huh? Why's that?

Your photo proves just how wrong that assertion was.

I had worked it out but left room for cropping since I only had my 90 2.8 as a tele and this is a 12mp crop of the original, that left me some room for error. I took 3 shots as I had visualized, this was the middle of the 3 which was right where I wanted it. I had plenty of time to set up the focus range and exposure.

Superb picture. I think I might go so far as to say that this is probably one of the best black and white steam loco pictures I have ever seen!

Thanks everybody. I hadn't been here for a couple of weeks and saw all of the nice comments. It's one of my favorites, oddly enough I just finished printing it for an upcoming show when I saw the comments. Makes me feel better about my choice.
