From now through 3/4/17 Sony is having a "trade-in event" where you can save up to $480 when trading in any lens, Mirrorless camera or DSLR. In addition to the trade-in bonus the customer will also receive the value of their traded in product as valued by Adorama’ s used department.

Sony also has new Instant rebates on several cameras & lenses which also just now went live and are valid through 3/4. There are some very nice deals when factoring in both promotions.

I have to admit it is pretty tempting to upgrade. Nothing wrong with my camera/lenses but it is a heck of a deal.

Have I got this right? I am having a pretty serious bout of GAS to go full-frame, thinking if I sell some gear to reduce my financial advisor's (wife's) pushback, I might be able to swing this.

Let's assume I wanted an A7ii and traded something for which they would give me $225 value.

Reg price - Sony instant rebate - bonus trade-in rebate - trade-in ($225)

So say A7ii: $1698 - $200 - $255 - $225 = $1018

Or with 28-70: $1998 - $200 - $300 - $225 = $1273

I'm thinking that is correct. I'd been considering trading in my Nex-7, but figured they'd only give me $100 at most for it. I think I'd rather keep it around.

Yep, what they give you for what you trade in is a definite factor. I suspect it would be well below what you could sell it for yourself, but you'd need to sell it for more than the item + trade-in bonus.

Another option I was looking at was a used A7 body. But a few hundred more for a new A7ii is very tempting. Decisions, decisions.

I forget where I saw it (maybe Adorama's or B & H's website), but they had a banner ad for the Sony trade-up program and they listed values (obviously top prices for a mint item) for items being traded in.....and from many different camera brands. One could do the math....from the little bit I calculated, the extra bonus they give you roughly equals the extra money you could sell it privately for.....but it also eliminates the hassles of trading with a complete stranger.

For anyone still interested, this rebate+trade-in bonus program was extended through 4/1.

I was told this over the phone by a store rep the other day as I was getting a quote on a trade-in, as I was worried it would expire before I could get in on it. He said the response has been tremendous.

I confirmed this morning it is still on the web pages at B&H, Adorama, and Focus.
