Thanks guys. This lens auto-focused like a dream on these textured subjects. Not so fast nor foolproof for focusing on eyelashes, though. Maybe PDAF folks have better luck?

For what it's worth, even my Nikkor 50mm 1.4 is sluggish to AF, and misses optimal focus lots of times. Fast, normal-tele primes = slow AF, I guess.

Strange to see so low interest here to this lens... NEX is not my main system, m43 took it over with much advanced technologies and lens choices. But I still love NEX and will use it ever. SEL5018 is one of a very few nex lenses to get this system for and I'll try to confirm that.

That's a beautiful shot.

I also love the SEL 50. What about the SEL 35? No love for that one? Zeiss E-mount lenses?

Very difficult to answer... I tried 35/1.8 on photo show in my town before it hit the shelves and I was impressed by sharpness and beauty of the lens. It's excellent choice if you need fix focal of 50mm equivalent... I don't as well as I don't need prime of 35mm equivalent (Zeiss 24mm) despite it's excellence...
If we are talking about primes I would buy only 16mm but high quality lens but after checking out my new 10-18mm I wouldn't :)))
SEL 50/1.8 is a lens with very, no...VERY! nice bokeh and I love to use it...

Sony NEX 5R / SEL5018

Generally I shoot concerts with a full frame DSLR. Decided to go for it with the 5R and two lenses. The SEL2028 and the SEL5018. Here is one with the 50mm.

I've ordered one of these, Will post back with some photos - though I'm not sure that I'm even in the same league as most of the photographers here, Judging by what I've seen so far!

I don't think there's little interest in the lens here, Azon. I have great interest in it. Just can't afford it. ;)

It's around $220 used, and from what I can see there's little if any sample variation. Not awfully expensive.

It's slow AF in low light drives me nuts sometimes, but it's still very good even wide open in poor light. Here's my daughter trying to extract a sound from the trumpet that her brother plays (it's much harder than you'd think ;) )

This represents probably 80% of the type of the shots I take, so the 50 is indispensable to me, even with it's flaws. I am as picky about getting the best bokeh and background separation as Ad is about across-the-frame-sharpness ;) SEL50f18 is not the best lens I've had in this respect, but very, very good.
