If you could determine Sony's E-Mount (NEX) lens roadmap for the next five years, what would it look like?

Here's one take by Canadian photographer, Chris Kroeger:

    Above, from left to right: 12mm f/5.6 rectilinear, Zeiss 14mm f/2 rectilinear (mislabeled "18mm"), 16mm f/2.8, 18mm f/2.8, Zeiss 24mm f/ 1.8, 30mm f/2, 50mm f/2.8 (collapsed), 50mm f/2.8 (expanded), 50mm f/1.8 OSS, Zeiss 60mm f/2, 70mm f/2.8 OSS (collapsed), 70mm f/2.8 OSS (expanded), 85mm f/1.4 OSS, 135mm f/2 OSS.

    Above, from left to right, above: 200mm f/4, 135mm f/2, 85mm f/1.8, 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3

    Above, from left to right: Zeiss 24mm f/1.8, 30mm f/2, 35mm f/1.4, Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 (different optical formula), 50mm f/2.8 (collapsed), 50mm f/1.8 OSS.

According to Chris, all of the above are true representations of how big or small the lens would be. He hasn't yet completed the zoom lineup and while I look forward to seeing that, I would be a very happy camper if the lens above came to pass.

    I'd pick the 18mm f/2.8, 30mm f/2, and Zeiss 60mm f/2. What about you?

That is exactly what I would pick too. That would mimic my current m43 lenses quite well.

Those primes will work for me too, but I am still looking for a replacement for my 24-60mm that I used with my 5D and lx3. So far Samsung is the only one showing a 16-80mm 3.5-4.5 lens on their lens roadmap.

There are a number of lenses in that fake roadmap that I would like to see ... particularly the 85mm 1.8 or 1.4 OSS and the 35mm 1.8 or 1.4 lenses.

That said, I'm even more interested in the details surrounding the real Sony lens roadmap for the E-mount. Sony's roadmap says there will be a "high performance standard zoom lens" with "G" branding next year but no details on the focal length range or whether it will be fixed aperture or variable aperture over the zoom range. Also, the "mid telephoto lens" on the roadmap is probably an 85mm 1.8 or 1.4 OSS ... hopefully based around the upcoming 50mm 1.8 OSS which looks like it might be a very sharp yet affordable lens.

I love the size of the 30mm f/2 and 35mm f/1.4. I also like the look of those collapsible lenses. It hadn't occurred to me that would be an option, but I've used them on my old Leica, and would be fine with it.

If that 60mm Zeiss had 1:1 Macro I'd be doubly interested.

Looks great! What lens were you using when you shot your lenses? I like the effect of the yellow hexagonal flares against the green bokeh - beautiful background! :)

The flares look like gemstones and could be a handy backdrop for photographing jewelry. I suppose your SEL lens collection can be considered as jewels! :)

I'd like to see a 18 - 85mm or similar. Would be a great all around lens for me personally
