Showcase Sony FE 70-200mm f/4.0 G OSS

Hi all here are a few from a recent vacation in Maui. All taken with A7 and 70-200 f4.

We were out exploring as it was our first time to this island and came across Flemming Beach. It was about an hour before sunset and the surf was pounding the shore so there was lots of mist in the air. The light was amazing! Here are a couple.

This one is sunrise at the Red Sand Beach in Hana

The last two were taken from the cliffs above the Jaws surf break. Apparently these were some of the largest waves in 20 yrs. Lucky timing on my part. Both are heavily cropped. There were a bunch of seadoos out there being paid top dollar to look after the surfers. Those guys are a entertaining as the surfers to watch and equally as talented in my opinion at least.

Something tells me you're going to be hooked on that 70-200! How I would have liked to have this kind of equipment when my kids were smaller but still I managed to build up a nice family chronicle with my Minolta and Nikon gear in those years. Keep it up, I can assure you there's no greater satisfaction than having a wealth of family pictures to look back on the childhood years of your children (says an old man ).

After 2 weeks of owning and using this lens exclusively (at a birthday party and also for my sons kindergarten graduation party), I can overall say I like this lens besides its small quirks...

Its definitely not lightweight (like the 18-105G) or small, balance is so so on the A7 for me, I found it at times wishing it was a stop faster and sometimes 200mm was kinda limiting. But my biggest issue with it is that sometimes I would not lock focus and generally behave a little weird AFing - I do think it has to do with low light AF capabilities of the A7 though...

On the plus side, it definitely sharp enough, produces great colors, contrast and good bokeh at 200mm for an f/4 lens!
It also looks like a PRO lens, which make some people very impressed and surprised when you take it from your bag and mount it on the camera

I found it awkward to use the lens on a bare A7, it didn't last long before I added the Meike grip which works very well for me. A 2.8/70-200mm won't handle any better, though you'll save some weight in your wallet .

I have an L-plate which isn't exactly a grip per se but adds a little width which helps
I loved the Ownuser grip on my Nex-6 but don't like how the grips look on the A7, make them very square/boxy like - I bet they work nice though

I enjoyed using that lens while I owned it. But in the end it was too big and heavy for my liking, and because I dislike calling attention to myself while shooting, the white color was particularly off putting to me. Still, you can't argue that it delivers!

I purchased mine as an Open Box at Best Buy to pair with my new A6300.
Adding this combo for my daughter's soccer games and very happy with the images.
My previous combo was with the A6000 and SELP18105G...realizing the playing fields were getting larger and further away and harder to capture the action.

I took this image of "Striker" during our last game...a bit of cropping and 1:1 conversion in Lightroom.

Excellent picture of a photogenic dog. Love that almost the whole head is in the depth of field zone, see too many pictures lately where the eyes are sharp and the nose is a mush.

I wish I had not opened this thread!!!!!
When I purchased my A7 II my plan was to add three lenses. First was the Zeiss 55 1.8, followed by the Sony 28 f/2, and the Sony 70-200. I have the 55 and the 28. Now, I feel the urge to add the 70-200.
