My greatest complaint with this lens is the strange/unexpected distortion. At somewhere between focal lengths of 24mm - 28mm the distortion is best controlled. Contrast, color, and sharpness are good all over. Bokeh is pleasant, I think... Obviously, some of these images have been played with a bit, and the camera does allow a lot of manipulation when shooting, but, for example, the shot of the Mercedes is pretty untouched.

This is the only lens I have at present which means any 'pics' posted on this site are taken with it, perhaps when 'posting' more information could be added to the bottom of the pics? I like to know what camera and any technical: details there are.

In my opinion it's pretty good for a kit zoom. Yes, the distortions at 18 mm are horrible, but as always, in field conditions it's not all that relevant. At least it's a decent lens to start with.

Am I correct in saying that there is lens correction built into the NEX-5N's software that'll fix in-camera, this distortion mentioned previously?

Cheers, Macjim.

Yes, that's correct. Altough the distortion isn't really a problem in field conditions, it's nice they thought of fixing it via software. I just hope we don't get as bad lenses as on m4/3 (without software correction, many of them are horrible - just look the reviews at photozone).

For general hand-held photography the 18-55 is as good as you need and better than many other lenses......

Excellent set Freddytto, I particularly like the B/W image with the red selective filter. The bits of red gives the overall image a different atmosphere.

Well done

Here are a few that I took from an outing with my friend. These were taken with my decentered lens. :) Looking forward to having a better copy, as I thought the IQ on these is very decent.
