Quite a nice little surprise announcement from Sony. While it's out of my price range (US$1400 body-only) for now, with 5-axis IBIS and touchscreen functionality it ticks off most of the features many of us have been asking for in a high-end APS-C body.

UPDATE: I wonder what this means for pricing and availability of the a6300, a6000, and a5100. Rumor had been that the a5100 is discontinued. Will the a6000 go the same way or merely stick around as the new low-end budget option?

Same sensor as in the A6300? As long as the old NEX keeps working I won't lose a second of sleep over a newer 24MP APS-C body; I'd never use any of those fancy features anyway. I'd rather see a somewhat compact standard zoom that makes good use of those 24MP instead.

Kudos to you good sir. I on the other hand have seen the VAST difference between my stabilized shots and non... the difference is about 40% more keepers with a body that has IBIS. i dont MIND using a tripod. hell i even carry it around to make people think im a photographer, but rarely find myself actually using it.

and upgrading from the 5r... i was seriously going to be missing TOUCHSCREEN.

    Very exciting news!!! Killer specs!
First "pro" Sony MILC with a touchscreen? Great! Now I'm sure the new A7III will have it too!

IMO, Sony must have rushed at announcing the new a6500 due to the Fuji X-T2 getting all the attention lately (I know I was intrigued) ;)

The touch focus screen is a great idea when looking at the screen, but I use my left eye when looking through the viewfinder so my face covers the screen so no use to me :laugh1:
I had that option on the m43 cameras but they had a fully articulated screen.

Plus I would be pretty pissed if I was a (new, only 5-6 months) a6300 owner...
I can see a lot of Sony users being pissed with Sony right now and the market "flooded" with used, "as new" a6300 for sale :D

take a look through the pics, i think i saw it on B&h, you don't have to be looking at the screen, you can be looking through the viewfinder and swipe the touchscreen to move the focus point. seems pretty intuitive to me

Touch-screen AF on the screen while looking through the viewfinder: this makes the A6500 an ideal streetshooter's camera IMHO, I'm sorely missing this touch-focus on the A7R2. The rest of the specs? IBIS is great of course. All I need to do now is to locate a Touit 1.8/32 :).
