I'd like to maximize battery life and want to shut off monitor for routine viewing but allow monitor on for image review.

    Can I do that?

    TIA,

Pretty sure the EVF uses more power than the monitor anyway... (Does on my A6000).
Best bet is to just turn off wifi/NFC (even put it in airplane mode) and set power save mode to the min time.

According to Friedman's book based on the A7

    1) Turning off the lcd makes no difference to power consumption - the lcd does not switch off, it is simply turned black
    2) The EVF uses 350mah and LCD uses 325mah
    3) Airplane mode makes no difference to power consumption (the wifi is only on when you switch it on)
    4) The only significant way to save power, is to switch it off when you are not actually taking shots.
