Now the question for my Ultimate zoom is get the Sony 70-400 f/4-5.6 A mount and the LAEA3 adapter or

    Sony native E-mount 70-200 f/2.8 and the 2x Teleconverter

Any suggestion on either combo? Thanks

Welcome to talkemount! There is no samples yet available on the lens or the converter. As much as how good that combo might be, I think 70-400 might be better based on my experience with tc's. Also if the rumored $3000 price is correct for 70-200mm 2.8, you can easily get used Sony 70-200 2.8 g and 70-400 g lenses for less money whether you need them or not... Choice is yours:)

    Go get f/2.8 with tcon!

You will have a lot more versatile combo, with and without tcon, your choice. I expect it to be very sharp even with tcon. You can also make a compromise, get 1.4x tcon, which will most likely introduce no degradation whatsoever, and you can crop a little bit. I simply love 200@2.8, but this is too bulky for me these days. Had it on Canon, had in on Nikon, now for Sony my decision went towards f4.

    Go for f/2.8. :)

thank you. I will most likely await tests of the 2.8 70-200mm. In the meantime, I do have my 70-200 f/4. What kept me from the a mount 70-400 was no OSS. But as others reported with the new IBIS of the A7II is not a problem.

A7ii has fantastic IBIS, this is correct. Magnificent camera.

If bulky lenses aren't a problem for you, sell 70-200/4, take 2.8 and both tcons.
