Let me start by admitting that I'm not the sharpest tool in the photography drawer...(waiting for the giggling to stop)...and I believe I'm too easily influenced by what I read in the various reviews and blogs. With all the hoo-rahs for the SONY 24-105/4 and the Tamron 28-75/2.8, especially when they'd mention the SONY 24-70/4, I was starting to believe that my 24-70/4 was inferior. But, in a moment of clarity, I thought to myself, "My SONY 24-70/4 works fine and it's plenty of lens for my needs." Then, that little voice (you know that little voice) said, "It's junk. Replace it." (I get in some pretty good arguments with myself, though fortunately it's never come to blows.)

Well, I went out this morning to prove, one way or another, whether I had all the mid-range zoom I needed. Conclusion: I'm keeping my SONY 24-70/4 and I'm going to start reading less.

Very recognizeable. I'm an avid pixel-peeper and I can see that there are better lenses than the FE 4/24-70. On the other hand, recently I used it for snaps of my wife's retirement reception and once again it didn't disappoint. Its previous job was to document a steam festival in my previous home town Dordrecht and that went well too. It works very well for that kind of events where you just want a comfortable lens with a convenient range, and it's fairly light and small too; your series demonstrates its versatility too. As far as results go, it's not only about sharpness but also about general rendering and this lens always delivers in that respect, punchy and colorful. It won't be in my bag for landscapes anymore, therefore the Loxia 2/50 sits comfortably between the FE 4/16-35 and FE 4/70-200.

I've recently bought an A7II and 24-70/4 and I’m trying them out on my favourite subject:
