Does anyone know you can zoom in via ring (like the 16-50mm) or if you're stuck with the zoom button?

I don't have the lens, but I was considering it at one point and my understanding is that you can use the ring. I'm sure people would be complaining otherwise and the lens gets good reviews from users. I also understand that it doesn't retract like the 16-50.

Yes. It has a manual zoom ring.

When you use the zoom ring on the on the 16-50mm instead of the zoom button it's much faster than the button. Is this the case with the 18-105mm too?
Does anyone know if it supports the A6000's hybrid AF system?

A lot faster. I never use the zoom button, unless I am shooting video . It's not as fast as manual zoom, but it's fast enough. I loaded this example

Ignore the quality, it was very dark.

Where did you read that. All Nex were updated to support it months ago. It focuses pretty fast for a zoom. I can't beleive the a6000 doesn't support it.

    from Sony site
    "Improvements over version 1.02:
Provides support for the following Fast Hybrid AF compliant and future compatible E mount lenses:
    SELP18105G, SEL35F28Z, SEL55F18Z, SEL2470Z, SEL2870, SEL70200G

Note: For the following lenses, the Fast Hybrid AF is effective only in the central area of the frame.
    SEL35F28Z, SEL55F18Z, SEL2470Z, SEL2870, SEL70200G"

What link? the Youtube video above? just right click on it.
The firmware information is from the Sony site; just google latest NEX firmware. It's all over this site too ( https://www.talkemount.com/showthread.php?t=6265&highlight=firmware+update )

Why would you think it does not support PDAF? I have it; it does. It is the newest Sony e-mount APS-C lens, so when it first came out, the older NEXs needed an update to support it. It should be fine with the a6000. Just look at the video above.

I've read in several places that it didnt support the A6000. I've tried other emount lenses that don't suport pdaf and they are still fast, but don't take full advantage of the A6000's af. I'm looking for an official source or someone who has this lens and the A6000

Check the firmware of your lens. I can't imagine my 5t supports Pdaf on all current and future Sony e-mount lenses and the newer a6000 doesn’t.

Btw - when the a6000 came out I had read a lot of people having issues with Pdaf. Turns out those guys never updated their lenses to begin with. It's worth a look.

    Good luck.
