Thought I might buy the 5n with the kit zoom and 16mm from Sony.com. Now I'm hearing (other websites) the 16mm is not a very good lens. Does anyone have any direct experience they are willing to share?

I've never had any bother with it, it doesn't see things quite the way I do but that's a preference thing.

I have two copies of the 16mm lens (one to use by itself and one to use with a wide angle converter). The 16mm is soft wide open but it sharpens up pretty well in Photoshop. For me the biggest complaint is inconsistent autofocus on my NEX-3 (I hope the NEX-7 is better).

If you stop down the lens to f/4 or f/5.6 then it is reasonably sharp. I just wish the 16mm was as sharp wide open as my m4/3 lenses on my m4/3 cameras.
