First post! I'm glad to have found a NEX-specific forum without people vacillating between systems (e.g., DPReview).

The following are some of the shots I've taken with the NEX-7. I might be preaching to the choir here, but this camera is just brilliant for capturing fine detail and huge dynamic range. (I also shoot a D700 with a 24-70 for these types of shots and I prefer the NEX-7 files).

Yep, great photos! I'll follow you on 500px as soon as my Mac decides to open it ...

As for the DPreview forums ... well, there are such incredibly stupid people over there, every time I read a few posts I instantly want to smash someone's face ...

  8. Welcome and very nice pictures. Were these pictures perhaps HDR and afterward converted to B&W? They are really great!

Welcome radimere! And I agree. It was mainly the increased dynamic range that lured me away from my old μ4/3 cameras.

Very interesting processing on those shots. Welcome to the forum. We're pretty low key around here most of the time. ;)

Low key? I'm afraid I'm part of the problem ... :hiding:

Thanks for sharing - good eye!

Yeah, it didn't take me long to get seriously hooked by the NEX-7's dynamic range. That more than anything else keeps the older DSLR on mothballs.

Speaking of DR, I rarely feel the need to bracket anymore as most shadow/highlight detail can be pulled from a normal raw exposure. I went a bit overboard processing this, just because the file allowed me to:

If a little bit is good, more must be better, right? ;)

Haha, that's why it's on Flickr and not 500px. More an exercise in recovering highlights and shadows than an aesthetic effort :)

You too post your not so good pics on Flickr, but not on 500px? Somehow the 500px users seem to be a quality police. ;)

Flickr has gone steadily downhill since being acquired by Yahoo. A lot of people just upload snapshots there, so I tend to do the same. 500px, on the other hand, has a fairly high bar of quality that I'll still be struggling to reach after years in this craft, so I try to upload quality stuff there. Lots of monstrously good Russian photographers at 500px, among others. :D
