So I asked in the other thread about posting there but some suggested starting a new thread, so here it is. Here are some pictures I took today with my new art line sigma lens on a Nex 5N. 1376168307106. 1376168328071. Love the lens, nice general use focal length, and sharp wide open. The only difference between this and the original from an optics point of view is the lens hood. Even with it on it is still prone to flare etc, but still lovely to work with. Build quality is excellent, feels like a lens that will last. My only concern is the white writing on the lens is wearing off my 60mm, it's not etched in just painted on. Don't care though, lovely lens all round. Post your own examples with this lens here. When I get some time I'll post pictures of the lens itself.

Looking good. Still would like to hear about manual focusing with the smooth barrel.

I shoot with a lot of legacy lenses because I love that mechanical manual focus feel so was really worried about the smooth surface and lag from fly by wire focusing before I ordered. Neither has been a problem at all. :) The super smooth body is paradoxically very grippy (even if my hands get sweaty after a long shoot) and the fly by wire introduces almost no input lag at all, and this is something I am very sensitive too having been a fairly hardcore gamer most of my life. I use it with DMF and tweak focus, the quicker you move the ring the more the focal point moves, it feels like a mechanical focus, with only minute lag. Any questions ask away, I'll try to answer. 1376171366016. this is another with this lens from a wedding I shot recently, sharp and lovely colour reproduction. No issues with it keeping up with a demanding gig like this at all.

No tripod but when shooting a wedding indoors I use a steady pod attached to my belt, the tension gives a few stops of stability. I think it was about 1/60 ISO 400, something like that.

The lens does not have stabilization but at 30mm this really isn't an issue, unless shooting video.

Another sharp one from the art lens, just a pleasing abstract composition that caught my eye while on a escalator of all things.

I find the look and feel of Sig 60 Art lens a bit weird. I would have preferred the same style as the earlier 19 and 30, but it's a good lens, and I like the results. MF works fine once you get used to the feel of the lens.

(Speaking of the 60, because my 19 and 30 are in the older style.)

Great shots, suntoryjim! And man, I wish I could have been down there (much less on the water like you!) for that final race. What a comeback!

Just picked up the Sigma 30mm 2.8 art lens. Does anyone else's lens have a "clunk" in it unless the camera is turned on?

    Yeah, everyone else's. ;)

Seriously, it's normal. The lens elements don't lock into place until the lens is powered on. The 19mm and 60mm exhibit the same "clunk."

How much better, at 30mm, is this Sigma 30mm 2.8 Art lens than the kit Sony 18-55 at 30mm? Does anybody have any apples-to-apples comparison shots of the two at 30mm and equivalent f/stops?

I am very, very seriously considering this Sigma 30 as my next AF lens for my A3000... but am torn between this at a focal length the kit lens covers, and the SEL55210 tele-zoom for longer focal lengths.

I've had both and the 30mm is sharper. The 18-55mm was not bad, simply not wanted.

No photos of both as I did not own them at the same time.

An advantage for the 18-55 is internal stabilization.
