I received my new Sigma 150–600mm DG DG OS Sports lens this afternoon, and couldn't wait to go out and see what it could do and how it handled. As you can see, it's a massive beast of a lens.

I was eager to test it against my Sigma 100–400mm DG DN OS Contemporary lens. But the smoke in our area made that impossible. Since mid-July we've had one day (Aug. 17) when the air wasn't unhealthy, and today was one of the worst days. Here's what one of my favorite landscape test vistas looked like this afternoon (at 150mm):

Not exactly ideal for testing a lens. So I settled for a few closeups, and I hope that I'll be able to add some landscapes to this showcase once the smoke clears.

In any case, here are a few shots that I managed to get this afternoon. There's no lens profile for this lens in Lightroom yet, so I just used the Sigma 150–600mm profile for their older, DSLR model.

I handheld all of the above shots. But I don't know how long I'd want to do that. This lens weighs a ton. And if you're curious to compare its bulk against the Sigma 100–400mm DG DN OS lens, here you go:

And should the zombie apocalypse ever arrive, you'll be able to see them far off and at the same time be equipped to fend them off when they get to you!

I will be interested to see how this works out for you versus the 100-400. I have a serious case of GAS for a long telephoto, but can't decide between these or perhaps the Sony 100-400 / 200-600 plus TCs. Complicated decision, but that is probably a discussion best left outside a showcase like this.

Congrats on the new lens.

Yes, how to store/carry/handle a lens like this is always a tradeoff. I don't plan on taking this lens out "a lot," so the smaller storing size of the Sigma was a plus for me. And the price. :laugh1: Internal focusing is always better, but I've read good things about the sealing on Sigma's Sports line. So we'll see.
