Please do share images of Long Exposure and or Light Trails, Star Trails.

I tried getting light trails from the trains just outside of the neighbourhood where I live, we have a bridge right above the train tracks.

I haven't done train light trails in many years and I did struggle a bit to get the right exposure.

I didn't have my tripod with me so I was limited to keeping the camera on the bridge wall to keep it steady for 30 seconds. I do miss the 60 seconds shutter max of Olympus and Panasonic as well as the Live Composite/Live Bulb.

This is when things got really weird and I swear I didn't hear the Star Wars intro song despite getting the Star Wars flying intro in the image. Not sure what happened as I have never seen this before, I know the floating writing is from the backend of the train which shows what is the next stop.

I will try to get more light-trails images, just need to remember to grab my tripod and strap it on my backpack to work. Now that daylight is so much shorter it's a lot "easier" (well more time to practice and more comfortable hours) to do.

Do the next-stop lights flash and are pretty bright? If so that could be similar to light painting.

I do believe they are the cheap LED type screens that you see at the Airports and Train Stations. I do think they flash to conserve energy and lifespan. That would explain the spacing between them as the distance is equivalent and mathematically arranged as they move away. Good point you made.

Most LED drivers flicker the LED emitters to cut down on heat build up, reduce energy and extend emitter life. It's not perceptible to human eyes since it's at a frequency we can't detect. You'll also see this in videos of LED tail lights in modern cars.

Tip: If you have an IR remote shutter, you can trigger BULB with it, once the camera is set to BULB, 1st press opens shutter and 2nd closes it. I wish Sony cameras had more creative features. They used to provide them as paid apps.

I soarly miss Olympus's creative abilities like Live Composite (incredibly useful for light trails) and Live Bulb where one press of the shutter sets the Bulb on and another press of the shutter ends it, no longer having the need to hold on the shutter button and it worked with the touch screen shutter so tripod wasn't needed if you have a stable surface (brilliant for improv situations).

I am baffled by Sony (but honestly any of the larger brands) slow adoption (or copy, however you want to call it) of features from the other brands, ex: IBIS, Live Composite, Time Lapse, Focus Bracketing, Focus Stacking, High Resolution Stacking (handheld or tripod), Pro Capture\Pre Capture (I so badly to wish Sony would out that in their A9\A1 for the absolute dream wildlife setup), Digital Focus Limiter, Shutter Shield (or whatever you want to call it), etc

I don't know all of the features being mentioned from other brands, but many were available on gen-2 cameras as apps (some free, some paid). Some of the apps were kludgy, but Sony made a real mistake removing the app capability, instead of opening it up. But that train has left the station, so to speak, and I doubt it will ever be back.

I downloaded an app for my iphone called shutter and I use it for LE Stills, Exposure Bracketing, Intervalometer and continuous shooting, it works very well but it's not free, I believe I paid $20, it's an option. I have a remote release but rarely use it.

Well last night I was all set up to give you guys a look at a rocket launch out of Vandenburg, but it turned out to be a dud. The rocket was puny in size as the payload was only 1300 lbs or so. The rocket went off without a glitch, but, because it was only about the size of one of the strap on boosters I'm used to photographing, it wasn't much of a show.
I did get this cool light trail of an airplane (I think) though.

Conditions weren't ideal as the neighbors across the street have kleig like security lights for their driveway. Light pollution abounds in my neck of the woods.
