I like how they assert that "Sony put some micro contrast into this lens".

I've been pretty happy with the 35mm so far. I've used it on the 6, but not the 7 -- and, I haven't done photos to try to measure the sharpness.

I disagree with the Phoblographer's conclusion about his comparison photos (between the Sony 35 and the Fujifilm 35). I did a little pixel peeping, and I suggest that anyone interested should have a look a the wavy red lines in his shots. The shots are, however, informal and he warned against pixel peeping. But then, what else are comparison photos good for?

It's early days, but the greatest strengths of the Sony may be in its colour rendition, contrast and OSS. Here are a couple of recent Sony 35s:

For what it's worth, the tiny 35 does have great contrast. Not super sharp, but given it's size it's a great lens.

i am looking at either the Sigma 30mm f2.8 or the 16mm pancake when someone suggested the 35mm to me, but the price is far far our out of my range, around £100 for the first two but nearer £400 for the 35mm

Indeed. I know it's faster and stabilised compared to the Sigma, but I wonder how those two stack up?

The sigma is a great lens, worth the money. Even the pancake stopped down to 5.6 can produce great image. See... ImageUploadedByTalkNEX1379150818.225549.

in this thread https://www.talkemount.com/showthread.php?t=4741 the posted has used the Sigma lens, i am well impressed by the colours and the detail, but for what I use my camera for there is no way I could possibly justify a price of almost 4 times the Sigma cost if I decided on the 35mm Sony lens

As a Sigma user myself, I've been nothing but impressed by the 30mm, that's why I wondered if the Sony justifies the price difference.

I have both the 35 and 30, if you need it fast, the sony is worth the money. If not, the sig is perfect.

I just went window shopping for one, and it appears that they aren't currently available unless you can find one that was overlooked.

Personally, I think the OSS that the 35 has is worth the price difference.

Seems to be in Stock in Canada: https://www.vistek.ca/store/photoprice.ca/266012/a.aspx. They have it on sale for 429 CAD. With shipping, it comes out to 447 CAD which is probably around 350-360 USD. I'm guessing USPS will probably tack on some duty/brokerage/taxes on top of that but still a pretty good price.

William, I looked and looked to see if I could get it quickly from Best Buy near me and no luck. They offered to ship, but it is needed more quickly than they could ship it. Thanks anyway.

I ordered it from Canada (thanks Habsfan). It's coming via FedEx and I can manage to get it a little more quickly that way.
