My first native FE lens, though it entailed waving goodbye to an APS one. Handles nicely enough and the focus ring has a decent amount of purchase on it.

Thanks Ted. I saw the 12/2 in the camera shop, hadn't realized how compact is. Their FE 14/2.8 is a monster by comparison with a gynormous bulbous front lens.

I ended up giving the 35/2.8 quite a workout today on account of an online letting agency flat inventory PITA. Having got used to the MFD of chunky old lenses w. adapter, its 0.35 seemed rather further away from the camera than I was expecting; the AF works OK, but I can imagine that Sony native lenses would do better.

Inbetween the tedium:

I love these lens, as makes the A7r2 quite compact and light.
I see reviews and comments saying it has flat colors and rendition, but I like it.
Ok, af is not THAT fast, but it is fast and precise, no back-focus at the moment for me.

It looks good, and even excellent for the price and size. But I would jack up the contrast in post with it I think. Thanks for sharing!

I might call its rendering 'calm' rather than flat; certainly prefer it to the look of the Sony lenses I've used, which to me (OSS 50/1.8 esp.) seems a bit lurid and over-hyped.

The camera shop (to their alarm) couldn't find their 2 copies of the Zeiss 35/2.8 so I wasn't able to compare them, alas. Hard to imagine it's a significantly better lens though.

I'm a fan of the reviewing site "Lenstip". They give the nod to this lens over the Zeiss in their summary, but just barely. It is actually sharper at all settings, but they weren't crazy about the construction.

The construction is more to the price point of e.g. the Sigma 30/2.8 than a Zeiss but seems robust enough for its size, and its MFD is more generous than the S/Z 35/2.8.

On an A7s its AF seems less reliable than the other 'native' lenses I have (Tokina 20/2, Sigma 60/2.8), the firmware isn't the latest version though, and I'm not planning on buying the Samyang box you need to update it.

I have had several Samyang/Rokinon lenses, and they were all manual. AF is a new thing for them, so they are behind he established brands in that field. Still, it's tiny, light, sharp and inexpensive, so my kind of lens.
These are 3 all snapped within a few feet of each other, near the entrance to my school.
