The Portola district of San Francisco was settled by Jewish and Italian immigrants after the 1906 earthquake, many of whom started nurseries to supply flowers to The City, which at that time was a day's journey away. The last remaining nursery is a couple of blocks from our house.

It's been abandoned for some years now, though roses continue to grow in what's left of the dilapidated greenhouses.

I pass by it every morning while walking the dogs over to McLaren Park.

There's something about the place that seems to attract my camera.

Great stuff. I love your color scheme too, hints of sepia and rust work really well here!

Nice shots David, but man- that place looks like a raging fire looking for a spark to start it.

Thanks Jim. And yeah, with the drought and dry winds we've been having, there have been red flag warnings here for the last couple of weeks. The whole region is one flicked cigarette butt away from conflagration.

I am with you...the third one is my favorite, but I can't articulate why. Moody, yet crispy.
