    Hi everyone,

    First forum post for me!,

recently got into the DSLR area by getting an NEX-5T with the 16-50 and 55-210 lenses, so far loving it!

One thing that really sucks though, I don't see any way to use the Bulb-mode properly, - as in NOT holding the button down with my finger for 30+seconds,

The App for NFC enabled phones is great and all, and you can do remote shutter with this - Which works fine, but bulb mode is not supported? Why?

Couldn't sony have just let me say, pick a number of seconds and then capture for that long?

Is there another way I can do remote shutter?

Being limited to exactly 30seconds is really pointless if I need more time with the shutter open, especially when using a ND filter,

Anyone know a way around this?

Hmm looking on the front therr does indeed look like there is an infared input - well this alone shows my newbie status... can I use any cheap infared remote that says it will work with sony cameras?

Just make sure that it works with your NEX. I tried a Phottix IR remote for Sony at a store last week and it didn't work with my NEX-5N, even though it is stated that it should work with NEX-5.

Even for for original Sony's remote only RMT-DSLR2 works with NEX.

Well it finally came though the post, and all I can say is...

It worked even better than I thought, extremely responsive - Now I just need to go to some cool places to get some long exposure shots, and actually learn how to use my ND filter properly!

If anyone else wants one, here's the link:

£1.20 Including postage and the battery :) (cr2025 which are easy to get hold of!)

    Thanks again guys!

Hey guys, this is my first post.

    @andyknowles
I have a NEX 5T and I'm interesting to know if the item you've bought works well in bulb mode with your 5T model?

    Thx in advance

I have the same remote and a Nex-5 - it works perfectly for BULB - press once to open the shutter, and again to close.

Bringing this up from the dead...

I'm on the market for a IR remote shutter release (I know I can do the remote shutter release with an smartphone app). What does the genuine Sony one offers more than the generic china-made cheap ones on ebay? There's a big price difference between the two...
Btw, most of these don't include the Nex-6 in their compatibility list...

Yeah, I don't shoot video at all so maybe that function would be worthless to me

I want something to justify spending the extra $$$ for the DSLR2 but I don't think I'll find it...

Yup, I can get that for just 0,99 gbp incl.shipping!!!
....and I think I'll go for that - problem is most don't specify if its compatible for the Nex-6

Well, the NEX-5T and the NEX-6 are almost the same, i cannot see any reason why it wouldn't work...
