Been dealing with a record high temperature heat wave with thunderstorms / rain every afternoon / evening for almost 2 weeks...worried that today's official 25% waxing quarter moon would be out of play.
But the photographer gods smiled and the clouds & rain storms held off so I had a clear night sky for a good moon shoot and I was able to get it after all.

Beautiful shot! I think this is my favorite of yours so far. Went up to northern MN in the middle of nowhere all last week on vacation, and couldn't get a single shot of the sky. I was so disappointed. The Canada wildfires going on caused a complete haze for the first half, then it was cloudy or raining the second half of the week when the haze cleared. Major bummer..

Just an additional thought on the moon...I had heard and have now seen first hand...there really are differences in how sharply defined a moon's surface is as it progresses through all the different degrees of illumination...angle of the sun or something. The variations through the quarters & halves seem to be sharper than Full.
I've also begun to notice a visual difference between shooting it as its rising up in the eastern sky vs. shooting it falling down / going away through the western sky.
