I removed the extension tube from my new MD Macro Rokkor-X 50/3.5, and took it out for a few Golden Hour pics. The results were not too shabby. I used it in a close-up, as well as a couple of landscape pics. The last pic was to test just how badly the lens would flare or wash out facing into a strong light. I spent an hour so with it right after I received it today, and it will take some practice to get used to it with the 1:2-1:1 extension. In macro mode, I was having trouble getting the focus right, I think basically due to unfamiliarity with the lens.

Little bit of flare on the right it looks like, but not too shabby.

Nope. I'll take it. Here's a Callery Pear leaf glistening in today's morning dew.

Yesterday I too spent a little bit of time with my Minolta 50mm Macro, the NEX-5R and a tripod. A couple shots from a flower in the back patio. A little cropping, rotation and minor enhancements done in iPhoto. DSC00925. DSC00921. DSC00934_2. DSC00900.

Very sharp photos, but what kind of flower is that?

Yep, the MFD is short, and the DOF thin, but it will just take some more practice for me. I ran across this spider having breakfast right after sunrise, while the woods were still dark and foggy.

The Rokkor 50/3.5 macro is a stellar lens in all its guises. One of many incredible lenses to come out of the Minolta foundry back in the day. A shame that a company capable of producing some of the best photographic lenses in the world is no longer in business doing that very thing. For a long time this lens was my go to weapon of choice to shoot the small world. It has recently been eclipsed by the Yashica ML 50/4 macro lens. Not because it is better neccesarily, but the Yashica is a Tessar design and if used correctly is capable of stunning imagery. I find myself favoring the Tessar bokeh in many shoots, although if done wrong its quite harsh. The Minolta is much more forgiving and in most aspects the better lens. Just depends on the flavor of the day. Some examples, with and without the extension tube

That last one is a macro shot of a girl reflected in the little droplets of water in a window screen.

    Great work.

Many lenses were sold as "macro, " two of which I own. However they don't get anywhere as close as yours.
