Some shots from the back garden, taken with the NEX C3 and a Helios 44-2 M42 mount lens. Mostly wide open, with some RAW edit in CS5.

    Great photos.

With Helios, you should get the best results when stopping it down a couple clicks. I had two copies and both were rather soft wide open. But stopped down a bit they were really nice. Wish I'd kept them.

Thanks guys, these shots were intentionally softened in CS5 as it looked a bit more suited to the subjects. I agree the Helios is pretty sharp from F4.

Some lovely photos. The Helios 44 is a great choice for portrait work. If you ever see a "m" variant like the 44m-7 or 44m-6 buy it. Those are from the 90s, have multicoating, and are fairly sharp even wide open.

Thanks for the compliment and the tip - I'll look out for one. The 44 I have cost me 10 GBP and came attached to a fully working Zenit body from a local second hand store. Pretty happy with it for the price !

Man, I wish I could find them around here at a second hand store! It's hard enough to find used film cameras anymore, let alone russian beauties.
