While waiting for my MD 50 1.7 to arrive, I thought I'd share some of today's shots of Andrew (all shot with the 18-55mm kit lens)...
(taking photos of kids - especially as "wild" as mine :D - is hard. Must took like 50 shots and only 4-5 came out good, lol)

    DSC05158-001 (crop, αντιθ, σκιες).

    DSC05159-001 (straight, αντιθ).

    DSC05163-002 (χρωμ, αντιθ, σκιε.

Love the one of your son in the book shelf, perfectly captured.

    Thanks ;)

As you might have seen from photos of him I posted before, I rarely catch him facing the camera. I keep calling his name so he turns towards me but he doesn't seem to give me much attention - or maybe he's camera-shy, lol :D

Honestly, they learn so fast that you want them to look. My little ones are now 4,3 and almost 2 and hardly ever look at the camera, so many shots are taken in profile. That's why shots Like Andrew in the bookshelf are so cool; a portrait that captures the moment, and artistic (without trying, I'll bet).

Try using a colourful face mask of some sort, or make one of some cartoon character he's fond of - out of cardboard. Cut a hole somewhere around its mouth to poke your lens through, so that all he sees is the mask (won't see your face or the camera). See if that works... :)

Yes, all the photos above were shot with using the oe ext. flash of the Nex-5 (shot at night time, indoors with ceiling lights)

No problem Claire, I'm sure it'll be here anyday now ;)

That's a great idea, I'll try it out, thanks ;)

I saw a professional photographer doing this at a mall studio booth. She seemed to specialize in children's portraits and I've always been curious as to what sort of results she was getting with it.

Freddyto, can I ask why you asked me if I've used flash for those shots?
Do they look a bit "dark" in your opinion?
