I do think you should have moved the car!
Better yet Thad, I closed the garage door!

We had quite the sunset after a late afternoon storm. I have quite a few images and may post a few more in the coming days. Unfortunately the rain stayed along a nw/se line about 20 miles (32 km) west of here. On the plus side, there were reports of baseball sized hail in some areas further west. Weather extremes are a norm here, I have heard meteorologists find this a challenging area to forecast. Storm chasers even come through once in a while. Ah the joys of living in North Dakota. Oh the picture, yes the picture...

Last summer sometimes when I was shooting Alfred I would see him standing there with his mouth open and his tongue rapidly flipping up-and-down, with his throat sort of gently billowing in-and-out. He was always too far away for me to hear if he were singing or vocalizing, and clearly he wasn't eating anything. The other day I noticed he was doing the same thing while standing on the pier, and this time I remembered to look in Google and see if I could find some explanation of this behavior.

It's called "gular fluttering," and he does it to cool himself down on a hot day. Definitely that afternoon was a hot and very humid one, so this explanation makes perfect sense! Why he didn't just get in the water and chill out that way I have no idea, but he seemed happy enough to just stand on the pier for a long time......

That wouldn't cool him down. He's probably insulated so he doesn't waste a lot of energy trying to stay warm while in the water, whether or not it's cold or hot.
Nice shots of Alfred, that A1 works well.

Now I know what that line is all about.

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Thankyou for the Grand Canyon shots Ted. It is an awesome place, growing up on the other side of the world it was a bucket list location for me to visit well before the term "bucket list" was ever on my radar. I finally got to visit in February 2016, I'm definitely hanging out to return there.

I'm told that if you water the adirondacks their shadows will grow.
