Ahhh... Live music again! Not a public event, but was lucky enough to be invited to the recording for a webcast. There were just the two of us in the "audience!"

This Cooper's Hawk was sitting on my next door neighbor's fence. I want to get closer, but I didn't want my neighbor to think I was an odd. One of the eyes on this hawk isn't right. I don't know if something happened to it or if it's old age? Picture 2 shows what I'm talking about.

It's blinking. That's its nictitating membrane. It's a translucent 3rd eyelid.

I took the 100-400mm with 1.4x TC out for a little stroll around the boardwalk and we soon spotted Alfred, the resident GBH, standing in the lake trying to find himself some lunch...... I spent some time hanging out with him, taking shots here-and-there, and was rewarded for my patience when he decided it was time to move on and took off, rising into the air..... I'm thrilled, as for once I actually got a decent BIF shot!

I light them with a big 5k watt halogen light that gets a diffuser sheet velcro'd to the front of the umbrella.

I close the front blinds so this is the only light on the quilts. I worked out this system all by trial and error over the course of many years of photographing my wife's quilts. I used to try to do it outside using the sun, but any breeze made it a little too sporting for me.

5kW!

thinking that all the lights in your neighbourhood must go dim, except yours which glows and buzzes!

Seriously, though... couldn't it be done with a fraction of the power in LED? Or is it just a case of that's what you've got, it's proven and no messing?
