I have a NEX 3N that has been converted to IR. I primarily use the Sony FE 35/1.8 lens.

If you have any tips or experience with IR conversions and techniques, please post. Your contributions will be appreciated.

Today was very overcast and gray. There was a constant drizzle. IR is very much affected by white balance and a proper setting. That's much easier to attain during a sunny day.

Did you convert it yourself? If so how hard was it to do? I'd like to get a NEX converted or maybe do it myself for cheap-ish if it isn't too hard.
I have a pentax K100D converted to IR (I bought it that way)...its getting super old and the 6mp pictures don't hold up to what the newer cameras can do. That and the dial is the back is going bad and the aperture values act crazy.

Here are a few pictures from it (I know not a sony, but still IR)

A false color of lake brandt...for some reason this was the only one I could get to work right in color...the others I just ended up going B&W.

I had the camera converted as I don't have the patience to do it myself. I'd suggest LifePixel or Kolari Vision for a conversion.

There's a company on eBay called Image-Laboratory. I wouldn't use them even if they were the only company available. I had a problem with a conversion they did and their reply was the time frame to report any problems is 24 hours after receiving the camera. 24 hours!

For a quality conversion stick with good companies like LifePixel or Kolari Vision.

I've heard good things about Kolari from the Pentax community so I would go with them if I had to send a camera off. My K100D was already converted somewhere in china by the previous owner, they did do a good job though.

Interesting, I always just did a white balance on the grass or green leaves and shot away. I personally like it with the gray card.

How did you get the sky blue but the river to stay red? On my color image I did the red and blue color swap and then changed the white balance until it looked right.

I masked the sky for the color swap.

I'm familiar with Life Pixel, and I feel they do a very good job educating their prospective clients. I've heard a little about Kolari, but don't really know anything about them. I've had two cameras converted by Precision Camera (a Nikon D5000 converted with a 720nm filter, and an Olympus E-P2 converted using a 650nm filter). I've been pleased with both of these (although I sold the Nikon some time ago) but only use the green grass CWB reference. I'll have to try the other references (gray card, etc.). Almost all of my 'successful' images were channel swapped using Photoshop or a similar process using Nikon's Capture NX-2 in years past).

I like the "gray card" look the best. The less "yellow" for me, the better. I find the blue to white contrast more appealing.

Great stuff - thanks for sharing.
