These are very nice. I noticed you used this lens in the Bulb Guy thread and was going to comment on it then, but as usual I got distracted. IQ looks good. Focus & aperture smooth? Working distance about a foot or so?

The focus throw is about 270 degree, focus not buttery, but dampened well enough for macro use.

The aperture ranges from 3.5 to 22, full click only, 8 aperture blades.

MFD (minimum focus distance) is 1.41 feet (or 43cm).

It has a filter size of 49mm.

The lens goes to 1:2 magnification by itself, there's a matching 1:1 close-up lens you can screw on the filter (I did not get the matching close-up lens with my copy when I bought it used). Actually, these are still available new at adorama.com in C/Y or Minolta MD mount. It was said it also appears as cosina, promaster, or vivitar.

Hmm, sorry about the typo, should be f/3.5, not f/2.8.

I think that Cosina is the original manufacturer. Definitely worth having if one gets it cheap. I wouldn't pay more than 100 USD/€ as there are much better ones available for about 200 USD/€ and even cheaper (I paid ~100 € vfor 100mm macro takumar).

Yeah, get it if it's cheap. What I'm saying here, is that the lightweight is an advantage of this lens, especially one with FL around 100mm.

Remember, almost all macro lenses are sharp. I've yet to seen a bad macro. In the field, handheld at macro focusing distance, technique is often much more important than the small IQ differences.

Very nice! Thought I should connect this thread with the one I started. I have the Phoenix version also, but I put it under the Cosina name since there are so many re-branded versions of this lens...

Thank you! The first is the center of my poppies. My friend and I decided it was very Tim Burton style. He is a fave of mine so I could see it right when she said it.
