So I have a few $$ and am looking at either the 55-210mm or the 18-200mm for my A6000.

1- How does the 18-200mm compare to the 55-210mm?

2- Is there a big difference between the silver and black versions?

So I was able to get a used 55-210 from EBay for $130.00. Hard to pass up.

Showed up Saturday, have not been able to use it yet. My main question, Why is the Lens Hood so big? Seriously, that thing is huge. Has anyone swapped out to a smaller lens hood?

I just tried the ALC-SH116 hood from my SEL50F18 and even though it is a 49mm diameter opening hood like the ALC-SH115 on the SEL55210, it doesn't quite fit properly on the SEL55210. Must be a difference in the bayonet arrangement. The ALC-SH112 from the SEL1855 fits just fine on the SEL55210 though. But it looks puny on the long zoom.
If you're concerned about a big hood, then don't look at the SEL18105G... the ALC-SH128 on it is huge!

I use one of the cheap rubber collapsible hoods (bought on eBay). I find it to be functional and compact when not in use. The "bump protection" factor is there but is different.

When I first started collecting lenses I bought several of these but after the initial infatuation found I didn't use them much EXCEPT on this lens where I think it is ideal and I keep it on most of the time. 55-210 Hood-3. 55-210 Hood.

    Thanks.

I have tried the rubber hoods, but did not care for them.
