On cameras that don't have EVFs, what do you do for sunny days ?

I plan to take F3 on summer vacation in Florida (yes, we go there in summers !) and I want to make sure it's going to be useable.

So far, the option is the "Sunny day" brightness setting (didn't try it as we haven't had a single sunny day since I got the camera), or this thing:

JJC LCD Hood Cover Screen Protector F Sony NEX 3 NEX 5 | eBay

Looks goofy, but OTOH I am not sure what else is there.

An added EVF is for now not an option I want to consider (too expensive and the money better spent on lens or camera upgrade).

If you can avoid direct sunshine, that's the first choice.

There's a sunny mode of LCD, you can try that.

You can also flip the LCD up, lower the camera, shade it with your hand or body.
(I have two 5N's, but only one EVF, that's what I do in sunny California).
