It's that time of year again for the annual Sydney Vivid Light and Sound festival. Headed to the city for the opening night to capture all the light and colour, well that was the plan. I got bored of the lights and found the people and city itself more interesting. This was the result. All shot with my A7 and Minolta MD rokkors 24mm f2.8, 35mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.4,

Oh and I lugged my tripod around all night for nothing.

Clean looking section of town, excellent shots & lighting.
I was just formulating the thought to ask if you used a tripod when I saw your closing comment, LOL,

Roundball, my plan was to use my tripod to shoot some big cityscapes and long exposures of the festival with the city all lit up in colour. I set it up once, took one photo then proceeded to delete said photo and pack up tripod. Just wasn't feeling it.

Ended up just taking a good old fashion photo walk of the city. All shot manual, handheld with mostly high ISO's up to 6400. Not what I planed but a nice night all the same.

These are wonderful. The street perspective of Sydney at night in B&W, was so well composed! You should get bored more often. ;)
Seen the cool parts of Sydney done in color, but you've done something refreshing here in B&W.

That's one impressive mix of low-light performance and PP on these images. Well done, Sir ;).

Thanks for all the comments. This is really the first time I've tested the low light capabilities of the A7, other than long exposures. I'm really happy with how it performed at highish ISO's. I shot RAW and JPEG in B&W creative style, more so to have EVF in B&W to make the focus peaking easier to see at night than for the JPEG files. That being said the JPEGS come out really nice with the in camera noise reduction doing a very good job. The shots above are from the RAW files and most actually have a little grain added in PP or I created extra grain/noise by pushing up the sharpening. I think the grain in these shot adds to the images rather than detracting.

On another note, I kinda realised my thread header and saying I was bored probably isn't doing the Sydney Vivid Festival the justice it deserves. It is quite spectacular and if you are in Sydney I would encourage you to go for a look especially if you have kids. If not you'll just have to search Flickr. There will undoubtedly be thousands of images uploaded in the coming weeks.
