Northern California in Winter

I took the opportunity of a little dry weather to go for an overnight car camping/photography trip. It was great to get out again (in a socially distant way) except for the part where I woke up to 4ºF (–15ºC) temps.

Indeed. But all depends on the conditions you camp.
If you are inside a motor-home or a tent is quite different !

That's for sure! I was camping in my Subaru Crosstrek micro-camper, and that was a big step up from a tent. But a real motor-home with a heater would have been very welcome.

I have slept in a car once or twice but at seating position ! Terrible, terrible even being young at the time !
It was inside a Volvo B18 on the way to Sweden, a couple of years ago...

Hah! Don't be too sure there, Antonio. I'm old enough to have ridden in a B18 (in Sweden, even!) when it was a new car!

But I never tried sleeping in one.

You can take photos at the temperature? You must have some kind of In Human Body Stabilisation. I'd be shaking like a leaf.

Thanks Thad. I still have some great cold-weather gear from my mountaineering days. And the only thing exposed to the elements is my left eye.

Recalling the prices of the clothes that I used to wear for a cold, wet day of British coastal sailing, back in the 1980s, the prices are not bad. They are probably less than the two Tamron zooms that I am currently (one done, one to go) buying at the moment.

A small price for being able to take my beloved tropical climate everywhere!
