I started off searching for a reasonably priced 28/2.8 AiS and ended up finding a 28/2 AiS sitting unclaimed in the consignment cabinet at the local camera shop. With a price tag of $100 it was pretty irresistible. It could use a re-lube on the focusing threads but I have no complaint about it optically. Interestingly, I was attracted to this lens because I shoot a lot of closeups and this lens (like the 28/2.8 AiS) can get very close...so THIS is the first shot I produced.

    It's definitely sharp.

Even when pixel-peeping it doesn't look bad at all. What aperture did you use here? BTW, I'm confused, are you showing the 24/2 or 28/2 here?

Oops...I fixed the typo. It's an 28/2 I believe the aperture was f4

Fixed the typo. It's a 28/2 AiS. I think the aperture was f4.

I like the lens a lot. Of course the images I posted are worked as I shoot in RAW and take everything from C1 to Tonality Pro or Silver Efex Pro 2 for BW. That said, the images did not need much in the way of sharpening. The way the lens render reminds me of the Fuji XF35/1.4. I'd say that they are in the same neighborhood IQ wise. I am finding the 28/2 to be quite remarkable in that it focuses very close (closer than my Vivitar 28/2 Close Focus) and yet is equally happy at infinity. I know that was a knock on the "legendary" 28/2.8 that it was optimized for close and middle distance but was ordinary at infinity. The 28/2 is sharp wide open with soft corners and sharpens up nicely across the frame when stopped down. The sweet spot seems to be middle apertures. So far I am very impressed with it.

I'm really pleased with how it came out (although I have a slightly different crop in mind).

Congrats, Kevin ... looks like you`ve got a great deal there; the 28/2 is one of my favorite lenses on the NEX.

I think 28mm lenses are such a great match for the NEX. That slightly wider than normal 42mm EFL is really nice, and lenses that close focus like the Nikon and my Vivtar 28/2 close focus make for a super flexible setup. Even my little OM 28/3.5 is handy and has the advantage of being really small as well.

Well, that took me some time before I figured out it's the hood of a car rather than some weirdly shaped bathtub.

About my only beef with the Nikon is it's rather large...and that's not so much a beef as an observation. It's a terrific lens though...absolutely love it
