    EDIT: I just tried it again and for some reason it decided to work! Oh well, that was a waste of time.

    Hi, I'm new to the NEX camera series, and in fact semi-pro cameras too (my only 'proper' camera so far being a Canon EOS 50). So I was really excited to get my NEX-F3 today, only to find the shutter won't fire!

    I've noticed that when the camera is off, the shutter curtain comes down for a few seconds then goes back up to reveal the sensor.

    The camera does not fire in any mode, it will auto-focus and focus peaking works, so I assume it's not the lens.

    When attempting to fire the shutter, nothing happens, no click, no on-screen message, just silence.

    I've formatted the card as well just to make sure, which is a Sandisk 32gb 'extreme' series which worked fine in another camera today.

    Any clue? I'll keep playing with the settings in the meantime. Thanks in advance.

    Activate "shoot without lens" in the settings menu, go to iAuto-mode and try to shoot. If it still doesn't work, your shutter is defect, so contact your dealer to get a replacement.

    Oh, and by the way - the F3 is not a semi pro camera, it's a beginner camera. If you want semi pro, buy the NEX-7 or A65/77. ;)

    I've had my share of scares with my various NEX because I inadvertently changed the drive mode from single shot to self-timer. Happened several times and each time the camera acted like the shutter opened and wouldn't close anymore, camera would go dead and not react to anything (save removing the battery).

    Thanks all, after having a few hours with the camera I love it...just a shame it arrived the day after the snow melted away!

    I hate snow. But I guess I have to wait some months until it melts here ... ;(

    I bought the 5N recently and it also refused to release the shutter no matter what I did. In the end I pressed the reset button and it suddenly began to work. However, this destroyed my confidence in it and I exchanged it for the 5R with in the week just in case it was a lemon!

    Having a 'proper' camera like this is surprisingly fun! I've already taken over 1000 shots, in fact :cool: although none have them have any real artistic value...

    @NickCyprus Thanks!

    @nianys I've had a bit of that today, but mostly just blurry images from playing with the speed priority continuous shot mode...it can be addictive.
