just picked up a nex-7 [was really looking for an a6000 but couldnt pass up the deal i got]

after having the 5r & a5000 [got this for 200 which was too good to pass up] i decided i missed the VF on the X100 i had so looked around & came across a nex-7 with 24/1.8 & f43am flash for 750 -flash & lens alone are prob worth that so i had nothing to lose

i really like the VF on the 7, dont have any problems with using it -the camera feels better in the hand than the a5000 -the extra bulk realy helps the handling

now for the annoyances -didnt research this but went to download the timelapse app to the camera when i see there are n Apps for the nex-7 whatsovever -every other model bfore/after -what is Sony thinking here?

-also cannot plug in any kind of remote -this was their pro-aps-c model again what were Sony thinking here -i like to shoot night time star fields & a remote is a must..luckily i have a astrus nex IR remote [1 thing i couldnt use with the a5000] -but most users wouldnt go to this expense imo

onto the lens i really like the close focus & i like the f/l for general shooting, its not overly big on the 7 body but does seem slightly hefty on the smaller a5000

just took some quick test shots -i hoped the bokeh might be nicer -though i wasnt trying to hard.. i hop to try the lens under the stars in the next few nights if the wind abates..it will be interesting to see the CA wide open

Congrats. That sounds like a good deal. As you said, the lens and flash alone retail for that amount. That said, I think you may not realize how old the NEX 7 is, because it was so far ahead of it's time. It's a 2011 camera. It pre-dates your 5r by a full year. The 5r was the first camera to support apps.

Bummer about not the app you want, but a great deal:)

I have used the Android app to remote control my NEX-6 via WiFi. It is nice as you can actually see everything you would on the screen.

almost makes me wish i got the 6 , here in Australia most users want 400 for a 6 & 400-500 for a nex-7,,which i don't get given the price of A6000

Ya, with the low cost of the A6000, I would get it without question.

Still loving my 6, though I am tempted.

No Wifi for NEX 7 unless you use a WiFi SD card. There really wasn't any wifi cameras in 2011. I tried 1 of those Wifi cards in my Nikon 1 and it was annoying.

Nice find! I'll be out shooting the Geminids this eve. We have 'near perfect' weather conditions here in the south of the UK so quite excited. I'm presuming you know they peak this wend but mentioning as you said you like to shoot starfields. :)

Gemini constellation is low for us - the radiant rises close to midnight & is never high in the sky -set on timelase on my 5R i go no meteors -caught 2 satellites though..the moon is also rising when the constellation comes up

here is a a test shot with the 24/1.8 -1.8 is not good, 2.5 isnt much better & even 2.8 has rom for improvement..looks like 3.2 or higher to get good starfields -not what i was hoping [the test shots i uploaded back to front -2.8-2.5-1.8
the abberrations at 1.8 are bad toward the edge -and the CA is apparent in all 3 shots -this is shot RAW with lens correction ON, minimal PP in DxO then resized, no cropping
i will start a new thread [in lenses] to show the siggy 60 results :)
